Q: Do I have to buy an extended warranty service for my 2006 Odyssey?
I bought a certified used honda odyssey from a Honda dealer with a milage of 57,000 miles. It has an extended warranty of 100,000 miles but does it cover the electricals and airconditioning system?

A: If it is a factory extended warranty then probably so. If it is aftermarket, then I doubt it. Sis had a factory extended plan and it covered everything.
You should have gotten a copy of the warranty info with your car. Read it carefully

Q: i own a Honda Odyssey 03 is a used one but i?
odyssey 03 i don’t have the owner’s manual and i would like to know how much motor oil and fluid transmission I know 5w-20 for motor oil but i don’t know about the transmission fluid and wich one is the best (brand or manufacturer)and how much to use my Osyssey has 50 Miles Thank you , anyone

A: The Honda transmissions only use Honda-matic transmission fluid that you get from a Honda dealer. A transmission fluid change (drain and refill using the drain bolt on the transmission pan to drain the transmission) will take about 3.5 quarts out. The transmission capacity is 8.3 quarts and that includes the transmission cooler and torque converter. to get all of the fluid out you need to flush the system using special equipment. Otherwise, just do the drain and refill.
the factory recommendation on transmission fluid change was every 100,000 miles. Most dealers recommend the drain and refill every 30,000 miles.

the engine oil capacity is 4.6 quarts with the filter, 4.2 without changing the filter. Almost eveyone always changes the filter.

hope that answers your question

Q: What’s a good transmission fluid to use for my Honda Odyssey?
It’s a 2000 EX Automatic. Can I use Other then dextron 3? and what do you think of a auxiliary atf cooler?

A: Use only genuine Honda ATF and change it every 30K miles. Dexron won’t hurt the transmission but you won’t like the way it shifts.

Q: What Year Did The U.S. Honda Odysseys Come With Daytime Running Headlights?
We are looking at importing a used Honda Odyssey into Canada from the U.S. and it needs to have daytime running headlights (headlights that are on all the time, that don’t need to be turned on). Thanks

A: DRLs started coming standard in 2008.

Q: why 2001 Honda odyssey use 12 miles per a gallon?
i have change the whirs and plugs and air filter

A: Check the carburator.

Q: can i use snow chain for my honda odyssey minivan? where to buy those special tire snow chain/cable?
I got different answers in the past. Someone said I cannot use snow chain at all, because it will damage the car computer system. Someone said it is okay, as long as I turn off the traction control. Someone said I need to use a special snow cable. Where I can get the safe snow tire equipment for my honda odyssey minivan? Thanks.

A: Firstly, tire chains will not damage your van unless you place them on your mini-van incorrectly or they happen to come loose and fling off. When you are looking at buying tire chains or cables make sure you note down the tire size of your vehicle (Get this off your sidewall of your tire (Just an example (225/60R16)) .

Most tire cables you can get at Wal-mart or some autoparts store. When you are looking at cables some sets come with bungee straps. Which I think are a must to ensure the chains stay tight on the tire and will not come lose and create damage to your vehicles wheel well or worse fling off and damage the side of your car or moving components.

As someone has mentioned place the chains on the drive wheels (rear -RWD cars), Front – FWD vehicles, AWD or 4×4’s I normally placed on the front as you get traction on your turn wheels, but some situations you may require them on the rear.

If you are worried about chaining up in the winter time, I would suggest getting a set of Winter Tires (true M&S tires) not all-season. You have the option of getting studded winter tires which help with braking on ice and give you a little more tracking power also when you start from a stop.

Only draw back going studded winter tires is some provinces and states have dates that you have to remove the studded winters (look into provincial or state rules). Regardless of studded or studless winter tires they will out perform all-season tires during the winter months. However, it is nice to pack chains around in the winter just for those emergency cases. Hope this helps with your decision on tire chains.

Q: re: 2000 honda odyssey, are there different types of atf trans fluids, which one should be used?

A: Use Honda ATF.For the benefit of the transmission.

Q: Which is better? Toyota Sienna (with free life oil changes) OR Honda Odyssey (dual auto sliding doors)?
I can not decide on which mini-van to buy. I have two choices:

(1) Buying a Used Certified Toyota Sienna with this dealer for free life oil changes, and Sienna might not have dual auto sliding doors (only i think on the XLE has it).

(2) Buying a Used Certified Honda Odyssey with Honda dealer which comes with dual auto sliding doors?

Assuming both are make in the same year. Which based on your experiences do you think it’s more favorable?
OR, tells me which mini-van is better for a family on a budget.

A: I would go with the Toyota Sienna, have a 98 never had one problem, Toyota’s also have a great track record as being a well built car, plus you can’t beat the Free oil changes, that will save you a lot of money in the long run & insure that you will keep up with it and keep your Van running great.

Q: Any experience towing a pop=up with Honda Odyssey. Through mountains?
I’m considering using my Odyssey to go to Yellowtone from MN and back. Can it easily handle the task? trailer is a Coleman Cheyenne.

A: Not a Honda Odyssey with a Coleman Cheyenne, but a 1985 T-bird with a Jayco J . . . interesting trip! We drove the southern route to California, up the coast to San Francisco and the northern route back to St. Louis. The drive was great and the company sucked!

Have a great trip!

Q: How is Honda Odyssey in terms of safety and economy as compared to the likes of Mercury Mariner, Toyota Sienna?
My husband and I live in NYC and we have 3 children. We are planning to buy a used vehicle and we would park it by the road since we don’t have our own garage.

A: http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=385

There are some results from the IIHC crash tests. I’ve always thought them to be on par if not surpassing the Toyota, Ford and Chrysler on safety.

Q: Are there any issues with using a non-Honda brake fluid on a Honda Odyssey?

A: no

Q: is it smart to buy a honda odyssey with 70,000 miles?
we are looking to get a mini van for or family but can only afford a used one, i heard that honda’s are the more reliable but is it worth spending money on a 70,000mile + van, how long do they typically last? is there another van that would be better? my tio (a mechanic) said to stay away from the american ones.

A: Your Mechanic is defenatly right. Early oddysseys don’t like to haul heavy loads, their trannys will go out, you can only haul 3500 lbs. I like Toyota Sienna, but they cost more. Siennas have queter, softer, smoother ride, but tend to eat more gas. I currently have an Acura MDX (closely related with Odyssey, Honda Pilot) And I love it, and it gets 26-29 MPG freeway only miles, aout 21-22 all around (it’s only rated at 22 highway), and it has a 3.5 liter just like odyssey but it’s AWD so I would imagine Odyssey should get even better milage.

Good Luck!

Q: Can 2006 Honda Odyssey Engine use E85 Fuel?

A: no it cannot..but it does have variable cylinder managment.

Q: Does it matter whether or not you use genuine Honda brakes and batteries?
One of our Honda dealers told us that the brake noises we were hearing on my parents’ Honda Odyssey was due to the use of after-market brakes. We got the brakes done at our local Midas shop. We’ve taken our cars there for years, and they’ve always done a good job. Does it really matter if we use “Genuine Honda” parts for something as common as brakes? What about car batteries?

A: No, it shouldn’t matter. In some cases, I’ve had better results with aftermarket brake pads and batteries than the original.

Honda doesn’t make brake pads or batteries. They get them from outside suppliers. Its entirely possible they come from the same place Auto Zone, Midas, or NAPA gets them from.
