Q: Suggestions on issues with my 2000 toyota camry?
My toyota camry has been having some problems lately. The engine light is on and when accelerating it kind of lugs back. I’ve also noticed that when at stop lights etc the car starts to shake. I’m having it looked at on wed by my mechanic, but any suggestions on what it could be and price suggestions?
A: I have a 1999 Camry. These cars, including your 2000 model, were notorious for engines blowing because of sludge build up. This was a design defect by toyota on those years, which narrowed the engine exhaust port hole which leads to the muffler. It was narrowed in an experiment by them to see it the extra heat in the engine would improve gas combustion. It did not. What it did do was create sludge ( a thick oil like substance) inside the engine–because the exhaust can not escape the engine as fast as normal. For 8 years, Toyota denied the problem (yes even back then)–and blamed all the drivers for not not changing their oil enough…finally a massive class action law suit was filed against toyota, forcing them to admit the defect. They finally did admit it after being forced to..but told customers that they will only pay for a new engine if the car was under 8 years old…by the time Toyota agreed to pay for the damages–most of the cars were OVER 8 years old. You car could have this problem and sludge build up should be carefully checked on your 2000 Camry. Unfortunately, sludge can seldom be fully removed. And just one small piece of sludge breaking free in your engine while driving…will completely destroy the engine…in just minutes. Good luck. I have abandoned Toyota forever. Their history is one of deceit and lies.
Q: Is Toyota Camry considered as a luxury car?
I live here in the Philippines and Toyota Camry here sure worths a big bucks. Although it has a strong similarity to the characteristics of a luxury car but I just want to know if it is considered as a luxury car.
A: No, a Toyota Camry is not a luxury car.
It’s probably classified best as a four-door sedan.
Standard definition of a luxury car is that it is a relatively expensive vehicle with more additions/accessories/emphasis placed on the comfort/convenience of the owner as well as the prestige of the name.
Some traditional examples (the usual suspects) for luxury cars are Cadillac, Lincoln, Aston-Martin, Lexus, Jaguar, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bently, Mabach, and Rolls-Royce. [note that, especially with Jaguar, Aston-Martin, and Porsche, that a sports car/luxury sports car is considered a seperate classification than "luxury"]
All in all – it’s about high price, high comfort, and high prestige.
Q: Do I need to remove the complete fixture to replace Toyota Camry 97 rear brake light?
I found that for turn signal lights and the rear light, the bulbs can be easily replaced after removing the plastic covering in the trunk. However, I am unable to find the “brake light”. Do I need to open up the complete fixture to replace the bulb?
Toyota Camry 1997. Rear Brake Light replacement.
A: all same place just remove other wire same way you have more than one if not you have one bulb that doe sit all
Q: About how much should it cost to have interior/exterior door handles replaced on a Toyota Camry?
I own a 1999 Toyota Camry. A couple years ago the interior driver’s side door handle broke. I never had it repaired. But recently the exterior driver’s side door handle broke as well. So I’m pretty much having to replace one of them. How much, parts & labor, should it cost to replace each?
A: There was a suggestion to use used parts. I would not do that, as most 11 year old Camry’s in the junk yard likely have exactly the same problem; they’re worn out.
Price the parts through the parts department at your Toyota dealer, (if you have one.) If not, call several dealers and see who has the best price. Don’t be afraid to ask for “trade,” price, which is about 20% less.
The door panel will have to be removed for this repair. It’s not a terribly complicated repair, but if you don’t think you have the skill to do it, find a reasonably priced shop to do it for you.
Q: Is it ok to use lower gears on the automatic 2009 Toyota Camry LE?
I recently purchased an AUTOMATIC 2009 Toyota Camry LE. This car is NOT SEMI-AUTOMATIC but does have the lower gears of 4, 3, 2, and 1 under D. Is it okay to use these gears regularly to manually shift the engine? If so, at what rpm would you recommend shifting up and down?
A: not a good idea to do on a regular basis
If you want to manually shift gears, why didn’t you buy a manual?
If you must shift manually, it depends if you want max performance or just fun. Either way, there won’t be much improvement over leaving it in D
Q: Toyota Camry more luxurious and expensive than acura?
I bought a Toyota Camry XLE which is more expensive and luxurious than the Acura TSX or RSX. Why is it so? I thought Acura was supposed to be more luxurious and expensive?
A: A Camry XLE would compete against a Honda Accord EX-L trim. Honda’s 4 cyl version probably starts around $24K+, and the 6 cyl version with all the goodies probably goes for close to $30K.
Acura’s TSX lines up against Toyota’s Lexus IS250. And the RSX (no longer manufactured) has functionally been replaced by Honda’s relatively new Civic Si. Comparing chassis-to-chassis,Toyota has no direct answer to the RSX, though perhaps they would position their Corolla S model against it…the RSX (and Civic Si) are more than a cut above the Corolla in virtually every respect. Toyota’s only other close comparison might be the discontinued Lexus IS300, which was essentially a very high end Corolla.
Honda has positioned Acura as its USA entry level luxury prestige brand. Honda is rethinking how it markets this lineup and is reposturing for a more direct, head-to-head competitive stance. Expect upcoming Acura models to reflect this philosophy. Also, Toyota’s Lexus brand sells more to older drivers who demand greater opulence & luxury. Though Toyota & Lexus put some stout motors into some of their models, overall, their machines mostly are not tuned for performance handling & excitement the way Nissans & Honda’s are…it’s a different philosophy in engineering & marketing.
Q: Where is the dipstick to check the transmission fluid on a 1997 Toyota Camry?
I bought a 1997 Toyota Camry,I need to know where the dipstick is to check the transmission fluid. I have the owners manual. I can’t find that information in there. Any help would appreciated
It has an automatic transmission.
If I have the hood open, and am facing the car from from the front, is it on the left or right side?
I don’t know much about cars.
Thanks JB
I checked it and it is not pink, it’s sorta brownish. I don’t know much about cars, but I do know the fluid needs changed. I will have it changed asap.
Someone should write a book called CAR REPAIR SERVICE MANUAL FOR BLONDES. LOL….Thanks again for your help.
A: on a 97 camry, the dipstick is going to be in the front.as you are stnding in front of car, hood open,it will be on the right side.more towards the center.it will have a red/orange handle.you can check on level ground, engine sitting for a few hours.the level will be at the lower check notches.Toyota uses a hot and a cold check set of notches, two different sets.sometimes the dip stick will be hard to reinsert, just turn it 180 if it is.
-
-cold engine,level ground,remove dipstick
-clean with paper towel or rag
-reinsert and remove again and check,it should be b/t the two notches for cold.if so do not add any more dexron 2 fluid.
=if any doubt go to a service station, shop and ask them to point it out, they may even check it for you.you refill it through the dip stick tube, you will need a funnel.do not over fill it.
good luck
Q: How do you set the timing on a 1998 toyota camry 4 cylinder?

Q: Metric Oil Pan Nut for 2001 Toyota Camry What size allen wrench?
Can anyone please tell me what size of Allen Wrench I need to buy to unscrew the nut on my Toyota Camry’s Oil Pan so I can change my own oil. I know it is metric but if you know the size please tell me. Thanks.
A: Go to Auto-Zone, they can tell you and sell you one.
While your there, ask them if drain plug has a washer on it. If it does use a washer, buy you a dozen of then right there, tie them together and keep in truck.
These washers are made of soft metal and flatten out real easily. They not only seal but help keep you from stripping out threads from over-torque of the plug. A worn washer will leak, and they only cost no more than 50 cents each.
Q: How do you remove a 2001 Toyota Camry rear bumper?
I have a 2001 Toyota Camry and my rear bumper has a dent in the passenger side corner. I was wondering how to take off the bumper so that i can push it out, or if there’s another way to fix it without taking off the bumper would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
A: smash it into into pieces
Q: Toyota Camry makes a weird noise when braking?
Everytime I go to brake my toyota camry it makes this loud thudding noise and it’s really disturbing. Could anyone think of what could be the problem?
A: Your brake pads might be slipping or you brake discs could be warped (thus creating more noise when you brake). On the other hand – this could be as simple as, you’ve got some loose items in the trunk of your car & they’re getting thrown about when you brake.
Q: Toyota Camry making fast clicking noise only when cold while accelerating?
I’m just wondering what it is. My father just bought a brand new Toyota Camry XLE. Recently when cold, while accelerating, it makes a fast clicking noise. He brought it down to the dealer and one of the girls, i’m assuming the operator, said alot of people have been complaining about the same thing and that there is nothing they can do and that it’s just the pistons making noise until it warms up. I’ve been working on cars for years and it sounds like a load of bull to me. What do you guys think?
A: See if letting the car warm up before driving helps, ive noticed it in more than just toyotas when cold. Seems like the oil is just too thin. My grandparents Camry done that and they had 10w put in as to 5w and it helped. Might also be the crappy quality of fuel now days in the States. Put some lucas injector lube/cleaner in it and see what happens if the oil doesnt work for you.
Q: Toyota Camry more luxurious and expensive than acura?
I bought a Toyota Camry XLE which is more expensive and luxurious than the Acura TSX or RSX. Why is it so? I thought Acura was supposed to be more luxurious and expensive?
A: The RSX isn’t being made anymore and it was pretty much a more refined Civic. The TSX is a European Accord. Fully loaded yall will have about the same features. The same thing applies with the Camry and the Lexus ES. Besides more sound deadening they are largely the same car. When you start hitting the TL and RL thats where the distinction comes from.
Q: why does my toyota camry le steering wheel lock while im driving?
today i turned my car on to leave for school. when i pull out of my driveway i was turning the steering wheel in the direction that i needed to go when the steering wheel locked for a couple seconds and then released.
after class i was coming out of the parking lot, when i started to turn onto the street, the steering wheel locked for a moment and then released again
i drive a 1999 toyota camry LE.
best answer will be chosen please help
A: I would seriously recommend that you don’t drive this vehicle until it is repaired.
I doubt that it is the steering wheel lock (those are pretty fool proof) but I suspect there’s something in the steering system that’s fetching up, and that’s not good.
Q: What sort of factory audio system can I expect to find in my ‘96 Toyota Camry?
I can’t seem to find a site with any specifications for the audio systems in Toyotas, does anyone know of one? Or perhaps just know the specifications for a Toyota Camry LE, ‘96 off the top of their head?
I’m wanting to know what to expect to be in place in my car, which has had nothing altered in it radio / audio wise.
A: Well, don’t know for sure, but I drove a ‘92 camry and recently moved into a ‘97 camry, both LEs. Both came with a standard am/fm/cassette receiver, and then an empty slot beneath it that looks as though it could hold another standard sized receiver.
Both cars also had 4 speaker audio systems; one each in the front door panels, and 2 on the deck above the rear seat. The set up is certainly no-frills, but has surprisingly good sound quality, even at higher volume.
Anything you replace the receiver with will need an additional wiring harness (mine was $15 a few years ago) but should be pretty easy to install yourself.
If you are looking at new equipment, check out http://www.crutchfield.com; you can select the yr/make/model of your car and it will tell you if the components you are looking at are compatible. Good luck!
